HP 6730b Laptop 64 bit ..... using a Huawei dongle similar to

In anticipation of Magiea 6 final being released .....

For the regulars here, or the old alt.os.linux.mandriva group, will/may
remember my ongoing attempts to get this computer to connect to the
Internet via a Huawei (or however it's spelt) 3G Dongle via one of
Australia's major Telco's, Optus.

In my never-ending (or, at least, not-yet-ended) attempt to connect, I
recently installed a Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS into a seperate partition
........ and it connected straight up, so I was wondering, might it be
that *during* the installation of Mageia/Mandriva, I tell it to not
connect to the Internet (to get updates, etc) and, when the installation
finishes, I'm not able to connect to the Internet, natively.

However when I installed Ubuntu, I don't recall having to answer tell it
to connect to the Internet to get updates .... and, lo and behold, after
the installation, I'm able to tell Ubuntu to connect to the Internet
*and it does* !!

So, in the near future, when I install MGA 6, at the appropriate time
should I tell it to connect to the Internet, so that when I re-boot up,
I will, natively, be able to connect via my 3G dongle??

TIA

What are you using to "connect". Network Manager orMageia's Network
Center? What happens when you try to connect?
Is the usb dongle seen by the system? lsusb should show if it is seen as
connected.

Anyway, no, I do not believe that your telling it not to download
updates had anything to do with your problem

I agree.

During the previous thread, I mentioned that my Huawei dongle connects
directly to the Internet, and shows up as an Ethernet connection. Yours
is apparently doing the same under Ubuntu, and I expect that it will do
the same under Mga 6.

You still have to go into the network manager, and tell the computer to
USE that connection. Don't click up "3G"-whatever. Go into the
"Ethernet" option, because that is what the Network Manager thinks it is
seeing. Configure it just as you would configure an Ethernet cable
connection, allowing for any different menu options that might appear.

HTH,

Doug.

Thank you, William and Doug.
